Projects
When I own my data, I can… build stuff and finish work.
This room is drawn by a script that has not run, so only the words are here. The same room is written out below, and there is a plain text page for it.
This room, in words
Work that takes many steps, kept together so you can put it down and pick it up again.
Some work is more than one task. It has an aim, many steps, things you tried, and a way to tell that it worked. This room is for that kind of work.
The desk holds the project: what you are aiming for, what is left, and what you have written so far. Beside the desk sits Git. Git keeps every earlier version of your work, so you can try something and go back.
When the work gets bigger, Git can grow into a garage of its own. A garage suits several projects at once, or two versions of one project side by side. Until you want that, the garage does not exist, and nothing asks you to build it.
A new home is closed to the outside. Outside AI and connectors become available only once you make the garage, by your own choice. The app has no AI yet, so this is not finished yet.
What stands in the room
A new home starts empty. When you pick projects as your purpose, these objects stand in the main room. Every start has the first four. This purpose adds Git at the desk.
Call button
safe, private, local AI in everything
The call button is how you ask itsadoor for help, and it knows which room you pressed it in. Here, that is the projects room.
Small desk
edit documents
With AI: it will find and summarize what you wrote.
The small desk is where the work itself lies. In this room it shows your projects first, then your to-do list, then your drafts.
- Projects
- One project at a time: its aim, what is left, what you tried, and what shows it worked.
- To-do
- What to do next, checked off as you go.
- Drafts
- Turn rough thoughts into a letter, an essay, a report or a guide.
Mini fridge
manage calendar, notes and to-dos
With AI: it will line up your day each morning.
The mini fridge holds what is coming up and what you have promised. Open it to see what needs attention soon.
- To-do
- A short list of what is next.
- Goals
- What you are aiming for, and a look each week at what moved.
- Projects
- Each project in short, so you can see which ones are waiting.
Locking drawer
locked health and money records
With AI: it will work here only while the drawer is open.
The locking drawer is the lockbox, and it asks for a second lock every time you open it. Health and money start inside, and this site never shows them.
Git at the desk
keep versions of your projects
With AI: it will draft a note about what changed.
Git keeps every earlier version of your work, so you can try something new and go back. It stands close to the desk and can later grow into the garage.
- Projects
- Each project and its versions, in one place.
- To-do
- The steps still to do on the project you have open.
- Drafts
- Turn rough thoughts into a letter, an essay, a report or a guide.
Tray by the front door
documents out on your phone
With AI: it will show which documents are out and when loans end.
This is the tray by the door. On the phone it is called “Handed out”. It lists the documents the hub has lent to a work app, says when each loan ends, and takes it back. It has been run on the iPhone simulator only, never on a real phone.
Taking it back ends the loan now. The work app cannot open the document again, and anything typed there that was not handed back is dropped. It cannot unread what the work app already read.
Not finished yet The backpack will hang on a hook here, beside the tray. It is the one place for what you download onto the device you carry. Each device has its own backpack. You set how long an item stays, and when the time runs out it leaves the device and stays in the house.
What the call button will do here
Not finished yet
The app has no AI in it yet. This is what the call button is being built to do. Local means it will run on your own computer. Private means what you ask will stay in your home.
- In the living room, projects At the morning and evening check-in at the call button, it will surface life information from your own documents: what is on today, what you said you would do, and what you have not looked at in a while. Here that means your projects, their next steps and your drafts. It will not act on its own: nothing is changed, sent or kept until you choose.
- At the desk It will help you edit documents: suggest a template for what you are writing, fill in fields you can accept or change, and answer “what did I write about this?” from your own documents. It will not change a document by itself: what it suggests is a draft until you accept it.
- At the fridge It will help with what is coming up: adjust a time block in your planner, tell you honestly whether you can fit something in, and bring up the next to-do and the next step of a routine. It will not make a commitment for you.
- At the locking drawer It will work on your health and money records only while you have the drawer open, after the second lock. itsadoor may suggest which kinds of record belong in the drawer. It will not look inside while the drawer is closed, and it will never choose which single items go in.
- At Git It will help you keep versions of your projects: draft a note about what changed, and lay out what happened between one version and the next. It will not Keep a version for you: only a person Keeps.
- At the tray It will help you see which documents are out on your phone and when each loan ends. It will not hand a document out or take one back without you.
- At your house, outside It will help with sharing: pick one finished piece to share, and turn a good moment into a short postcard draft. It will not share anything for you: you publish or close it yourself.
- At the stoop It will help you pick one finished piece to share, mark it open or closed, and shape drafts and good moments for the people you share with. It will not publish for you: you publish or close it yourself.
- At the doorbell plate It will help you follow up on something you promised a person you are connected to, and look over your card to give out. It will not connect you to anyone or answer a request for you.
- At the mailbox It will help you write a postcard and look it over before you send it. It will not send anything: nothing leaves until you send it yourself.
- On the street It will help you remember what has passed between you and a person you are connected to. It will not look into anyone else’s house: another person’s house is seen from the outside only.
- At the backyard The backyard is for meeting the people you are connected to, and it is not built. When it is, the call button will help you get ready to meet them. It will not join a meeting for you.
How things here grow
In the app nobody picks a size of home. Each object grows when you want it to, on its own path, and can always go back. Nothing prompts you. On the picture version of this room, a control called “See it grow” shows the same objects at three steps named studio, house and mansion. Those three words belong to the website only.
The 3D house Not finished yet The same home, as a house you walk through in three dimensions.
Your house, outside the front door
The front door leads out to “Your house”, the front of your house. The place you stand is the stoop at first. It becomes the porch and then the veranda as sharing grows, and each size shares with more people: 1, 5, 10.
On the picture version, walking out opens it on a floating page over the living room, with the room still showing around it. Your front door stands at the top of the steps. Your figure walks down them, and pressing the door walks the figure back up and in. After the steps come the doorbell plate, the mailbox, the path and the gate, in the app’s order.
The doorbell plate holds the people you are connected to. The mailbox holds postcards. The path leads to the neighborhood, with one house for each person you are connected with. The gate leads to the backyard.
The stoop
share drafts and good moments
With AI: it will help you pick one finished piece to share.
The stoop is the first size of the place you stand to share. The app calls the first size “Front step”. This website calls it the stoop. It shows three views first, out on the stoop:
- Porch
- Pick one finished piece, mark it open as a card on the porch, and close it later.
- Good moments
- Collect the good things from your days, and share a few with someone who matters by postcard, so the reply comes from a person.
- Drafts
- Turn thoughts into a letter, an essay, a story, a report or a guide, working from an outline.
Who each size shares with
Not finished yet
- The stoop shares with one person at a time.
- The porch shares with a group of up to 5.
- The veranda shares with a group of up to 10.
Out front
- Doorbell plate contacts and requests to connect With AI: it will help you follow up on what you promised. The people you are connected to, requests, your card to give out and a way to add someone's card.
- Mailbox send and receive postcards With AI: it will help you write, and you send. Postcards you write and receive. Its flag is up while something is waiting to go. The mailbox cannot send or receive anything in this build. Nothing was lost. Not finished yet Sending and receiving between homes is not finished yet.
- Path walk to the neighborhood With AI: it will remember what passed, and will not look into anyone’s house. Leads along the street, to the houses of the people you are connected to. It leads to the neighborhood, and it will lead on to places people host. Not finished yet Leading on to places people host is not finished yet.
- Neighborhood One house for each person you are connected with, between a street lamp and a tree. The street is empty until someone is connected. Live presence and delivery between homes are not finished yet. Not finished yet Live presence and delivery are not finished yet.
- Gate go to the backyard With AI: when the backyard is built, it will help you get ready. Leads out to the backyard, where spaces will be. The backyard has a tree, a bench and a fence and nothing else yet.
- Inviting people Asking someone into a shared property. What it does is not finished yet, and it has no drawing yet. Not finished yet
- A place you host A separate room you will create and run on your own server, for the people you invite. It will stay invitation only. You will be able to sell goods there. The seller brings their own way to be paid; itsadoor never handles the payment. Not finished yet
In the backyard
- Guest visits Seeing the houses of people you are connected to, as a guest. Not finished yet
- Meeting spaces Meeting with those people in a shared space. Not finished yet
The rooms things can grow into
On the picture version, “See it grow” at its last step turns each thing that can become a room into a door with the room’s name on it. Walking through the door opens that room on a floating page over the living room, with the living room still showing around it. This is what stands in each room.
- Office drafts, notebook and decisions With AI: it will help you edit drafts and weigh a decision. Writing, planning and keeping the household. Stands in it: Desk, Whiteboard, Filing.
- Kitchen meals, shopping and plans With AI: it will help you plan meals and keep the shopping list. Actions, schedules and commitments. Stands in it: Fridge, Counter, Pantry.
- Garage projects, drafts and connectors With AI: it will help with projects, and reach outside only if you choose. Making, projects and working evidence. Stands in it: Workbench, Pegboard, Shelving, Connector panel. The outside: A new home is closed to the outside. Outside AI and connectors become available only once you make the Garage, by your own choice. The app has no AI yet. Not finished yet
The lockbox
The lockbox has a second lock that you pass every time, even to look at your own data. Health and money start inside it, and you choose what else goes in.
Robin’s example
Example data. Robin is invented.
A new home starts empty. Then the room fills in. The situation switch changes what Robin’s things say. It never changes the room. Pick a situation to read what Robin’s things say in it. On the picture version, choosing a situation puts a small note above each object whose lines changed, and a line on the wall says what changed.
